Active Threat Training Program

The Active Threat Training Program (ATTP) is a dynamic and practical training initiative designed to equip law enforcement and security officers alike with the critical knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage and resolve an active threat event. Recognizing the unpredictable and high-stakes nature of such incidents, the ATTP employs a comprehensive approach that emphasizes real-world application through hands-on training experiences.

Participants in the ATTP will be immersed in a rigorous curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical exercises. The program is structured to provide participants with the tactical proficiency required to respond swiftly and decisively to active shooter scenarios. Through dynamic, interactive drills and scenario-based training, officers will develop and refine their ability to employ Active Threat Tactics.

The program's intensity and challenging nature are designed to replicate the pressures and complexities of real-life situations, ensuring that participants are well-prepared for the demands of their role. The ATTP covers a wide array of tactical subjects critical for responding officers. These subjects include:

  • Single Officer Response Tactics: Training in effective solo response strategies for officers who may find themselves first on the scene of an active threat situation.
  • Limited Penetration Tactics: Techniques to maximize safety and efficiency when entering and clearing rooms or buildings in the presence of a potential threat.
  • Tactical Medical Training: Essential medical skills and knowledge to provide immediate care and support to victims and fellow officers during an active threat situation.
  • Multiple Officer Response and Link-Up Procedures: Coordination and communication strategies for responding officers to effectively collaborate and neutralize the threat.
  • Response to Explosive Hazards: Training in recognizing, responding to, and mitigating the risks posed by explosive devices or threats.
  • Post-Shooting Considerations: Guidance on the legal, psychological, and tactical implications following the use of lethal force in an active threat situation.

To ensure the highest standards of proficiency, participants will be rigorously evaluated on their ability to perform the required skills and tactics. This evaluation will occur in the context of a practical exercise, where participants will be tasked with assuming the role of a responding officer. Through this immersive and realistic assessment, participants will demonstrate their readiness to effectively respond to and resolve active threat situations, thereby enhancing the safety and security of the communities they serve.

The Active Threat Training Program (ATTP) is meticulously structured to provide participants with a comprehensive and realistic training experience. This program follows a progressive, step-by-step approach to ensure that participants are fully equipped with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to respond effectively to active threat scenarios. The training evolves from classroom-based instruction to hands-on exercises, gradually building the confidence and competence of the trainees.

Classroom Instruction

The ATTP begins with classroom instruction, where participants are introduced to the fundamental concepts and principles of active shooter threat response. This phase of the training is designed to establish a strong theoretical foundation.

Use of Force Simulator

Following the classroom instruction, trainees move to the Use of Force Simulator. This phase of the training provides a critical bridge between theoretical knowledge and practical application. The simulator allows participants to engage in realistic, interactive scenarios that mimic the complexities of real-life active threat situations.

Shoot House Training

The final phase of the ATTP takes place in the shoot house, where trainees put their skills to the test in a controlled, but highly realistic environment. The shoot house is designed to replicate the conditions of an actual active shooter incident, providing participants with the opportunity to apply their training in a hands-on setting. Each Participant will be kitted up in safety equipment and given a firearm that shoots simmunition rounds.

Evolution of Training

The step-by-step approach of the ATTP is designed to facilitate the evolution of training, gradually building the trainees’ skills and confidence. By starting in the classroom and progressing to the use of force simulator and shoot house, participants are able to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired in a controlled, yet realistic environment. This methodical approach ensures that trainees are fully prepared to respond to active threat situations, enhancing the safety and security of their communities.

The ATTP’s emphasis on practical, scenario-based training reflects a commitment to providing law enforcement and security officers alike with the highest standards of proficiency and preparedness. Through this comprehensive and progressive training program, participants develop the skills and confidence necessary to effectively manage and resolve active threat situations.
